A week has gone by already! Last weekend I was the guest of the Cambs Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. I really enjoyed meeting so may talented and interesting people. Here are some of the photos from a very industrious and sociable Sunday workshop. We were focusing on colour and design with the emphasis on ‘playing’ to loosen up ideas and move out of familiar patterns.

The venue was the village of Bourne just outside Cambridge. This beautiful old church with it’s twisted herringbone steeple was the view from our window.

A big thank you to Paula and Tim Armstrong for letting me stay with them overnight and for their kind hospitality. An unexpected bonus was that their Saffron Walden home was also the former home of the artist, illustrator and designer Edward Bawden. He lived there until his death in 1989 and his wallpaper was still on the walls of my attic bedroom.

New Wheels

April 25, 2013

Love my new bicycle! Now getting to the studio is much quicker now. The only problem is getting back…….It’s all uphill. But it’s good for the heart and lungs.

I’m looking forward to visiting Cambridge this weekend. It’s years since I’ve been there. I will be a giving a talk and workshop to the Cambridge Guild of Weavers. More later.

Ori-Rhythm II Revisited

April 11, 2013

It was nearly a year ago that I went to Kyoto to take part in Ori-Rhythm II. An international tapestry exhibition at the Kyoto Art Center. When the much awaited catalogue arrived it brought back such good memories.

A big ‘thank you’ to Keiko Kawashima of Gallery Gallery for producing such a lovely, limited edition, catalogue – pictured above. Thank you as well to Glen Kaufman our much valued guide for the lovely image of  blossom in Kyoto this year. Where’s ours!

Absorbed in tapestry

There was a lot of concentration going on at my weekend workshop at Handweavers Studio. We packed a lot in and everyone produced some great ideas and lovely work from absolute beginners.

Thank you to Sue Wright for the photos.
