Tapestry Workshops

March 27, 2015

In the Studio of Artist Fiona Rutherford

I will be running a two day tapestry workshop from my home based studio in Edinburgh on 16th/17th May. Designed for a small group the workshop is about learning and exploring your creativity at your own pace. You can contact me directly for more details.

Off The Rails Arthouse in Fife is the quirky setting for my one day workshop on June 6th. Contact http://www.offtherailsarthouse.com

Both workshops cater for beginners as well as those with some experience. I hope to see you!

The 62 Group at Upfront Gallery

March 23, 2015

I’m exhibiting two of my smaller framed tapestries in The 62 Group of Textile Artists exhibition “Now” at the lovely Upfront Gallery in Cumbria.

“Begin Again” and “Another Story” were created during a challenging time of transition and change. They are inspired by the strange and unsettling imaginary landscapes found in fairy tales. Where there is always a happy ending …. of course.

Exhibition dates: 17th March 2015 – 10th May 2015

January light

January 22, 2015

The sea is always a good place to walk to lift the spirits especially on a  clear, cold calm day. The light is just beautiful.

Magic Winter Gardens

January 6, 2015

Cold clear blue sky and a perfect day to wander around the Botanic Gardens with a sketchbook and camera and clear the mind. I need to draw again and the winter landscape provides a strangely beautiful source. Skeletal plants – black, brown and ghostly white create tangled shapes. Freezing fingers.

It is like an oasis in the centre of the city.

Warmed up by going to see a really magical exhibition “Invented Acoustical Tools” by Tony Conrad in Inverleith House.

Sculpture and music. Here’s the suspended chair I sat in and plucked at the wire strings holding it to make bass tones. The attendant handed me a violin bow and I made more noise… sound…. something. Magic!
